Space to Shimmer

“space to shimmer” 8″ x 10″ oil on panel – plein air AVAILABLE

Some days the landscape is full of drama.  Dark clouds, bright sun, deep shadows, strong winds, big waves.

Other days are soft.  The colors are pale and sparkly as if lit from within.

As a painter it is interesting to stand in front of such a landscape.  At first look, it seems almost devoid of color.  All my eyes can take in is “bright”.  But as my eyes adjust, the color begins to reveal itself.  Warm barely there oranges and yellows, soft purples, a hundred shades of blue.  And the sparkle on the water reflecting the glow of the sky.  Suddenly, my eyes are overwhelmed with all of the color where moments before I could see none.

As I stand in front of it all and work on mixing the colors I see, it occurs to me how important it is to give everything an opportunity to reveal itself…. I can miss so much  by rushing to judgement and not taking the time to give everything and everyone space to shimmer.

I am a landscape painter living and painting on the Georgia coast. Painting and writing is a way to reach out and share my observations, my experiences and my inspirations with you. It is how I tell my story and the story of the wild, beautiful landscape where I live.
